Dan was born in Ottawa, Ontario and has lived most of his life in the Ottawa Valley. At an early age he was a person who what to learn and had a strong interest in mechanical engineering.

He started his career, earning his Automotive & Industrial Machinist Tool & Die Maker ticket, Industrial Mechanic (milleright) and then his Industrial Instrumentation Technology certification. After spending over eight eight years in Toronto area working for a engineering firm servicing ships on the great lakes and serving buildings in the Greater Toronto region, Dan and his wife Velma moved back to Ottawa. There he helped open the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus and continued to work there for more than 30  years. Through this time period Dan's family grew to two daughters and two sons. Dan kept attending school and in the 2000 he earned his Master in Management, Fellow in Facility Management, F.CIM , P.Mgr , C.A.M. , CET and his First Class Power Engineering Ticket.

With this experience behind him and more spare time to build his Amsoil Business .
